Listening for the Counselor's Voice

John 10:1-5; 27
“I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber! 2 But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.”

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Jesus uses many tools in His counseling toolbox: Scripture, preaching, worship, small groups, godly friends, professional counselors, and the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. The challenge isn't that He's not speaking—it's learning to recognize His voice. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." How do we tune our ears to hear? Start by seeking His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. His voice might come through a sermon that speaks directly to your situation, a lyric in a worship song, a conversation in the church lobby, or conviction during prayer. Today, create space to listen. Turn off the noise, open your Bible, and ask, "Lord, what do You want to speak to me about today?" Then pay attention throughout your day to how He answers.
