The Price of Freedom
This powerful message reminds us that freedom is never without cost. As we reflect on our national independence, we're invited to consider an even greater liberation: our spiritual freedom purchased through Christ's sacrifice. The sermon draws a profound connection between the price paid by those who secured our earthly freedoms and the ultimate price Jesus paid on the cross. Through the lens of Exodus 21 and the concept of the bondservant, we discover a beautiful picture of Christ's love. Just as a servant could choose to remain with his master out of love for his family, having his ear pierced as a permanent mark of devotion, Jesus chose to be pierced for us. Isaiah 53:5 prophesied this when it declared He was wounded for our transgressions. The nails didn't hold Jesus to the cross; His love did. He could have walked away at any moment, but His devotion to us transformed duty into sacrifice. Today, we're challenged not just to be made free, but to live free. Too often we accept God's gift of freedom only to return to the chains of guilt, shame, fear, and bitterness. Christ has declared there is no condemnation for those in Him, yet we continue to condemn ourselves. This message calls us to embrace the freedom that has already been purchased, to walk in the newness of life, and to refuse to let the enemy place any yoke of slavery back upon us. Our freedom has a cost, a Savior, and a calling.
